“As I sit in my township of Buninyong I sit with my mother I notice the strong sense of family within the magpies who fly around the neighbourhood protective loyal and strong the magpie represents the idea of family and child protection some days they raise their young quite firm though other days I see genuine love and companionship striving to enjoy the life that has been provided it reminds me of tradition as they fly together the magpie demonstrate true family morals I choose to overlay the magpie over the Aboriginal contemporary design of our flag in saying we acknowledge those past present and emerging the magpie bird call is very distinct and strong and can be a strong reminder of us as families within the aboriginal community true to the landscape and guide us through life as they watch over us”.
